About the show:
Looking for something “profanely hilarious” to watch this fall? Season one of the “funny as hell” HBO comedy series Vice Principals is coming to Digital HD October 17!
Created by Danny R. McBride and Jody Hill (creators of HBO’s Eastbound & Down, along with Ben Best), Vice Principals: Season 1 tells the story of North Jackson High School and the two people who almost run it, the vice principals. McBride and Walton Goggins star as the school administrators, who are in an epic power struggle, vying for the top spot: to be school principal. But when new rival Dr. Belinda Brown (Kimberly Hébert Gregory) enters the picture, these bitter antagonists must form an unholy alliance to bring down the outsider by any means necessary.
Also featuring Georgia King, Busy Phillips, Shea Whigham, Sheaun McKinney and guest stars Bill Murray and Susan Park, the new comedy series was a critical and audience hit this summer on HBO. Heralded by Rolling Stone as “the summer’s best new comedy,” Vice Principals is a “must watch” series for Eastbound & Down fans and comedy lovers alike.
This show is HILARIOUS. It features nine half-hour episodes, which go by very quickly, and I definitely wanted more afterwards. Unfortunately, I just read that Danny McBride has planned Vice Principals to only be two seasons, regardless of the reception it receives by critics, which is a major bummer - I'd love to see more of the show.
The show starts out with a cameo by Bill Murray, who is resigning as the school principal due to personal reasons - his wife has cancer. The two vice principals, Neal Gamby (McBride) and Lee Russell (Goggins), who hate each other, expect that one of them will be made principal; imagine their surprise, then, when the school board brings in a fresh face for the job, Dr. Belinda Brown (Kimberly Hebert Gregory).

The two VPs decide to team up in order to oust Dr. Brown, in the hopes that one of them can snag her job once they do, and the results are ridiculously funny.
I'm a fan of Danny McBride in most of the shows he's in, but I haven't encountered Walton Goggins or Kimberly Hebert Gregory before; they comprise the core cast here, and work very well together. This TV show is definitely not for those who get offended easily, as the language is very R-rated, but I very much enjoyed the show - I binged it in about a week. I'm assuming the second season will be back next summer, since this season premiered July 2016, as well.
Have you seen Vice Principals yet? If so, what did you think of it?
