Playing with the Galaxy S7 & other new tech at Verizon, plus a giveaway {ends 4/8}

Image
*Disclosure: I received a Verizon gift card for attending this event. The opinions expressed here, however, are my own. This past Tuesday, I got to play with some new tech at the Verizon store in Troy, MI - and Verizon has some cool new phones and toys that I enjoyed. I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S6 , which I bought last year when my previous smartphone (a Galaxy S3) decided to finally kick the bucket. Although I'm more of an Apple girl when it comes to tablets, I may have to reconsider that after playing with some of Samsung's new tablets (see pic above), as this one was HUGE and more like a TV than a tablet. The first tech we looked at is the new Galaxy S7 , as well as the S7 Edge , both of which have some new features compared to the S5 and S6. The first thing we were shown is that the S7 Edge is waterproof - I was a bit nervous to see a phone SUBMERGED in water, but it turns out it is indeed waterproof:

Movie Review: My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2

Image
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) came out when I was in high school, and I remember I loved it. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 , then, as its sequel, had big shoes to fill; luckily, although it wasn't quite as funny as the first installment, it still has lots of laughs, and I definitely enjoyed it. The Portakalos clan is back in this movie, and the whole gang has returned. By now, Toula (Nia Vardalous) and Ian (John Corbett) have a daughter, Paris (Elena Kampouris), who is in her senior year of high school and deciding which college to attend. The whole family wants her to attend Northwestern so she can stay in the Chicago area, but Paris has her sights set on NYU. At the same time, Gus (Michael Constantine) is looking through old papers and finds his and Maria's (Lainie Kazan) marriage certificate, from fifty years ago .... only to see that the priest never signed the certificate, so technically he and Maria aren't married. The "big fat Greek wedding" in this movi

Movie Review - The Divergent Series: Allegiant

Image
I'm a huge fan of the Divergent book series, and also loved the first two films based on them. Allegiant is no exception, and although the first Divergent movie is still my favorite, this one is now my second favorite, with Insurgent (movie #2) coming in third. All of your favorites from the past two movies, with one exception, are present here: Shailene Woodley as Tris, Theo James as Four, Ansel Elgort as Caleb (Tris's brother), Zoe Kravitz as Christina, Miles Teller as Peter, and Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer in supporting roles. The "new guy" in this movie is Jeff Daniels, who plays David, the leader of the Bureau, where the foirmer Chicagoans take refuge. The Bureau is supposed to be a safe haven for them, but Tris and Four soon figure out that the Bureau is hiding some major secrets - thus setting up David to be the new "big bad" of the series.

Yes/No Detroit on the Road: Castaway Bay (Year 2!) and 4-pack day pass giveaway {ends 3/23}

Image
*Disclosure: I received a 1-night stay at Castaway Bay, as well as waterpark tickets. The opinions expressed here, however, are my own. This past weekend, I was able to stay at Castaway Bay for one night, as well as experience its waterpark, and I had a great time. This was my second year going to Castaway Bay as a blogger - I went last year as well. This year, I went with my boyfriend, and we stayed in a Pelican Bayview room - last year I was in a Starfish Bayview room. I didn't find much of a difference between the two rooms (both of which were very nice) but apparently a Starfish room has two double beds, whereas a Pelican room has two queen beds. Castaway Bay has all types of rooms, ranging from standard (Starfish/Pelican) to suites for larger families, and you can read about the different types  here .

Movie Review: Miracles from Heaven

Image
Miracles from Heaven is based on the true story of a little girl in Texas who suffered from a rare digestive disorder. The story is brought to the big screen with a great cast, including Jennifer Garner, Queen Latifah, and John Carroll Lynch, and you will definitely want to bring Kleenex with you for this movie. Christy Beam (Garner) lives with her husband, Kevin (Martin Henderson) and their three little girls on a farm in Texas. One night, her middle daughter, Anna, starts having severe stomach pains, and they rush to the ER; the doctor on duty tells her it's nothing, but she demands to have a more senior doctor look at Anna, and later they find it's a rare stomach disease. Anna has to be fed through a tube and will require constant medication; even then, her quality of life isn't great, as Anna is in pain all the time. Christy puts Anna on the waitlist for a specialist in Boston, but the waitlist spans 9 months, and Anna might not make it until then - so, desperately h

Movie Review: The Perfect Match

Image
The Perfect Match is the kind of fluff "chick flick" you see when you don't have much else planned on a lazy or rainy day. It's an okay movie, but one you won't reflect on that much after the credits roll. Charlie (Terrence J) is a player who doesn't "do" relationships, mostly sticking to one-night stands.   Two of his friends are engaged and getting married soon, and the other two have been married for a while and are hoping for a baby - these two couples want Charlie to be in a relationship so he can have what they have. When Charlie meets Eva (Cassie Ventura), she tells him that she usually only does long-term relationships but is looking for something a little more fun, and he's definitely up for that; however, he later finds out that she's keeping a big secret from him.

Blu-ray Review and GIVEAWAY: Sisters {ends 3/16}

Image
I was excited to receive Sisters  in the mail to review, as I hadn't been able to attend the screening and I missed it when it was playing in theaters. I'm a big fan of Tina Fey's from 30 Rock  and her other movies, and I like Amy Poehler as well. About the movie: When the Ellis sisters, the always-responsible Maura (Poehler) and impossibly hotheaded Kate (Fey), receive word from their retired mom and dad that their family home is on the market, they discover they have one weekend left to clean out the old junk in their bedroom. As they comb through the artifacts of their teen years, Maura and Kate’s trip down memory lane leads them to a seemingly crazy plan. Looking to recapture their glory days, the sisters throw one final ”Ellis Island” blowout for their classmates, resulting in the cathartic rager that a bunch of ground-down adults really need. Blu-ray and DVD bonus features: Deleted Scenes Extended Scenes Gag Reel The Improvorama Feature Commentary With Dir

Movie Review: Zootopia

Image
Let's get one thing straight: Zootopia is a movie for adults, cleverly disguised in the guise of a children's film. Kids will appreciate the animated characters, yes, but the plot caters to the adults, making this a film that the whole family will enjoy. A bunny named Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) has wanted to be a police officer her whole life. There's never been a bunny police officer before - but that just means that she'll have to be the first. She finally get admitted to and graduates from the Zootopia police academy, and is thrilled to find out that she'll be working in the city itself (she's from a rural area) ... only to find out that she'll be a glorified "meter maid," as they've assigned her to parking detail. Judy is determined to be more than just a meter maid, though, and with the help of an unlikely ally, Nick the fox (Jason Bateman), she sets out to solve a missing persons case, in order to prove herself.

Movie Review: London Has Fallen

Image
London Has Fallen is the sequel to 2013's Olympus Has Fallen , only with a change of venue: this time, Gerard Butler and U.S. president Aaron Eckhart are in London for a state funeral, rather than trapped in the White House. However, while the first movie was a fun, action-packed film, this version, although still action-packed, ended up being a bit stale. When the Prime Minister of England suddenly passes away, the President of the United States (Eckhart) must rearrange his schedule to be able to attend the funeral. He brings with him Mike Banning (Butler), his ever-faithful Secret Service agent from the last film, and every security precaution is taken. What they don't know, however, is that they're walking into a trap, and soon they will be running for their lives through the city in order to escape terrorists who want world leaders dead.
