SAG Awards predictions

I've written about the Golden Globes, CCAs, BAFTAs, and the Oscars on here, but it seems I've neglected a "little awards show" called the Screen Actors Guild awards, which will be airing tomorrow night at 8pm EST on TBS.

Here are the nominees for the major film categories, and my picks, which are in italics ... I'll even try my hand at the TV categories:

Jesse Eisenberg, from "The Social Network"
Male Actor, Leading
Jeff Bridges, True Grit
Robert Duvall, Get Low
Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network
Colin Firth, The King's Speech
James Franco, 127 hours

~This could be interesting, as Robert Duvall has not been nominated with the others in this category for "Get Low" before. Eisenberg or Bridges may stage an upset, but Firth has been winning awards left and right for his performance in "The King's Speech," so I'm going to stick with him for the win.

Natalie Portman, in
"Black Swan"
Female Actor, Leading
Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right
Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence, Winter's Bone
Natalie Portman, Black Swan
Hilary Swank, Conviction

~The surprise: Hilary Swank. She was good in "Conviction," but I'm thinking Portman will win yet another award for her incredible "Black Swan" performance.

Male Actor, Supporting
Christian Bale, The Fighter
Jon Hawkes, Winter's Bone
Jeremy Renner, The Town
Mark Ruffalo, The Kids Are All Right
Geoffrey Rush, The King's Speech

~Christian Bale, no question about it. I haven't seen "Winter's Bone," and the other actors nominated here were all great, but his acting in "The Fighter" was very, very good.

Female Actor, Supporting
Amy Adams, The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter, The King's Speech
Mila Kunis, Black Swan
Melissa Leo, The Fighter
Hailey Steinfeld, True Grit

~Melissa Leo won the Critics Choice Award but this is really a toss-up category. Steinfeld is new here, so she could win, and I've been hearing grumblings about Carter and Kunis being under-appreciated. Adams has a good chance of winning as well.

Cast in a Motion Picture
Black Swan
The Fighter
The Kids Are All Right
The King's Speech
The Social Network

~Another toss-up category. Personally I believe the cast of "The Fighter" should win this, but "The King's Speech" or "The Social Network" may win as well, as they both had phenomenal casts.

And now, watch as I fail at choosing what TV shows will win! (Or not ... we'll see tomorrow night.)

Male Actor, TV Movie or Miniseries
John Goodman, You Don't Know Jack
Al Pacino, You Don't Know Jack
Dennis Quaid, The Special Relationship
Edgar Ramirez, Carlos
Patrick Stewart, Macbeth: Great Performances

~I'll admit that I've only seen "You Don't Know Jack," out of all of these, but Al Pacino was great in it. I believe he won the Critics Choice Award for it as well. Goodman was equally good but it was Pacino, playing the lead character Jack Kevorkian, that stole the show.

Female Actor, TV Movie or Miniseries
Claire Danes, Temple Grandin
Catherine O'Hara, Temple Grandin
Julia Ormond, Temple Grandin
Winona Ryder, When Love Is Not Enough
Susan Sarandon, You Don't Know Jack

~Danes has been winning awards left and right for her performance of Temple Grandin in the TV movie of the same name. I'd like to see Sarandon win this, though.

Male Actor, Drama Series
Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire
Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
Michael C. Hall, Dexter
Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Hugh Laurie, House

~A few weeks ago I would have chosen John Hamm or Michael C. Hall, but Steve Buscemi won the Golden Globe for his performance in Boardwalk Empire, so I will go with him for the win.
(anyone else out there feel like Hugh Laurie always gets shafted when it comes to awards? According to Wikipedia, he's won a few, and has won the People's Choice Awards for the last four years, but not a ton of major awards, at least recently)

Female Actor, Drama Series
Glenn Close, Damages
Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: SVU
Julianna Marguiles, The Good Wife
Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men
Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer

~This may be "cheating," but I'm not even going to try to pick a winner for this one.
(any suggestions?)
I've seen a few eps of Law and Order: SVU and none of the other shows, but I know all of these actresses are great in these shows. So I have no idea.

Male Actor, Comedy Series
Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Ty Burrell, Modern Family
Steve Carell, The Office
Chris Colfer, Glee
Ed O'Neill, Modern Family

~I'm hoping Baldwin gets the win but I'm thinking it will probably be Carell.

Female Actor, Comedy Series
Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
Tina Fey, 30 Rock
Jane Lynch, Glee
Sofia Vergara, Modern Family
Betty White, Hot in Cleveland

~Jane Lynch will probably win this but if Tina Fey or Betty White won, that'd make me happy. White is especially hilarious in her role on "Hot in Cleveland," though I may be biased because I am a HUGE "Golden Girls" fan.

Ensemble, Drama Series
Boardwalk Empire
The Closer
Dexter
The Good Wife
Mad Men

~Again, I would have said "Mad Men" or "Dexter" a few weeks ago, but now I'm going with "Boardwalk Empire."

Ensemble, Comedy Series
30 Rock
Glee
Hot in Cleveland
Modern Family
The Office

~You know "Glee" is going to win this. They win everything. (and no, I have never seen an ep of the show, partially because I know I will probably like it, and I watch too much TV as it is.)

Tune in tomorrow at 8pm and see how many of my predictions turn out to be correct!
