Leslie Wright (Queen Latifah, "Valentine's Day") is a physical therapist and an avid Nets fan. She has the fortune of running into their star player, Scott McKnight (rapper Common, "Date Night"), at a gas station, and he invites her to his birthday party, which is taking place the next night. She brings her gorgeous friend Morgan (Paula Patton, "Precious") to the party, and Scott become enthralled with her; soon, they are engaged. When Scott injures his knee in a basketball game, however, all bets are off - he is no longer the star player for the Nets, and as a result, Morgan leaves him. Leslie becomes Scott's live-in physical therapist, and while working with him, she helps him get his game back, in more ways than one.
This movie can technically be classified as a "chick flick," but guys will enjoy it too because there are several sports scenes and cameos from actual basketball players—Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade, and Rashard Lewis, just to name a few. Common is adorable as Scott McKnight, and he actually out-acts Queen Latifah, although she delivers a fine performance as well.
I would say Maybe see this movie. It was very cute, though predictable, and I did enjoy it. However, a lot of scenes were cliché rom-com material—there's an "almost kiss" scene, and a few others—and these did seem to bog the down the movie a bit. "Just Wright" was better than a few of the rom-coms I've seen recently, though, so if you are looking for a "date night movie" with some basketball in it to entertain your significant other, this might be the movie for you.
"Just Wright" premieres in theaters this Friday.
